Tips for all you lost souls

You are going to want to sign up for a lot of scholarships. The more you apply to, the bigger chance you have of getting the reward! Here are a few tips, just to keep in mind.

1. Don't ignore the small prizes. You might want to go for the $10,000 one, which is fine, but don't ignore the $200,$500 or even $100 dollar scholarship. They can really add up in the end! Even if it's just to pay for books. (Which are incredibly and stupidly expensive)

2. You are gonna want to keep track of the things you apply to. A lot of the scholarship websites will have a few of the same scholarships popping up because they are popular or well known. In order to save you time, just write down the names of the scholarships you have already signed up for into your notes.

This may seem a little excessive but some of these scholarships have a strict 'submit once' policy and it would be dumb to not get the scholarship because you accidentally sent in your application twice!

3. If you are looking through scholarships, aim for the ones with sooner due dates. The other ones can wait until later, since they will be due later, but you shouldn't let these scholarship opportunities pass you by. Set the later ones aside for a different day!

4. Don't forget to check for scams!
-Ignore anything that asks for money
-ignore anything that 'guarantees' a win
-ignore any website that hides their contact info
-ignore any website that asks for too much information (social security, etc.)

Happy hunting :)

Scholarship Scams

Don't be her, she is sad and broke.

Signing up for scholarships can be really easy! There are lots of websites and lots of choices. But not everything is genuine, so keep an eye out. Here is a website that goes in depth on what to look out for when filling out scholarships. I highlighted the most important parts below. Good luck on your scholarship hunt!

Fees:

Applying for legitimate scholarships does not cost money!
Submitting such applications will cost you time and effort, but should never cost money, no matter how small the amount.

Pressure:

If you ever feel pressured and are observing that it’s a “now or never” scenario, the scholarship is likely a scam.

Personal Information:

Other than some basic information, a scholarship provider should not ask all applicants for private information, like your social security number.

Some require information from winners, however, if you’re just at the point of starting out in the application and they ask for such information – don’t provide it because it will likely be used for something other than you intended.

The best rule of thumb to follow? If it seems too good to be true, it likely is!
